The Automation Anywhere ‘Now and Next: State of RPA’ report is based on the results of the global Enterprise Technology Research (ETR).

The research provided insights from hundreds of organizations currently deploying or planning to deploy Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Intelligent Automation (IA). The report investigates how companies are deploying today before focusing on their strategy over the next 12-24 months by assessing their priorities, benefits and how much they are spending.

Industries covered within the report based on hundreds of Global 2000, Fortune 500 firms and smaller organizations
What is RPA?
Robotic Process Automation is a software technology that helps to automate business tasks. RPA users can create software ‘bots’ to emulate and execute the same tasks a human would, saving users time looking for the answers and actions they need.
What is IA?
Intelligent Automation is a combination of RPA and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which can be used together to automate end-to-end business processes and accelerate digital transformation.
Benefits of deploying RPA
Why is interest in automation growing?

Unsurprisingly, the pandemic has increased the popularity of automation, which can create significant growth possibilities for organizations. For example, the dramatic shift to working from home has seen RPA demand increase along with high volumes of users and surges in customer demand, calling for more customer-facing functions eg call centre activities to be automated.

RPA and AI are becoming very common, with many of the organizations within the surveying reporting that they are actively using RPA: 63% are deploying, whilst 27% are still evaluating.

RPA adoption amongst survey respondents

When calculated across 4 areas (productivity improvement, quality improvement, higher-value work and cost savings), the average return on investment is 250%.

Top reasons to deploy RPA
  • productivity improvement
  • average ROI
  • quality improvement
  • cost savings
  • higher-value work
The future of RPA deployment

More than 57% of organizations in the survey are planning to increase spending and double the number of bots within the next 12 months. Cybersecurity comes out on top as a priority, followed by cloud migration and RPA. For businesses already actively deploying RPA, they ranked it higher than cloud migration along with a higher ROI.
